Pubs, Prohibition & Piety

Begin with a walking tour to discover how Prohibition affected life in our fair city! Learn about the City's brewing history, mysterious vaults and speakeasies, and about the crooked judge who helped bootleggers get off scot-free. You'll also learn about the Law & Order Society that was formed to clean up Lancaster, and how our very own "Eliot Ness" eliminated bootleggers, the mob and the crooked police force in less than a year. Then embark on a narrated driving tour en route to the Lancaster Brewing Company for a deli lunch, brewery tour and sample tastings. Must be 21 or older with I.D.

Celebrations

Explore the ethnic and religious diversity of Lancaster City with a narrated tour that provides an inside view of our region's unique cultural and religious celebrations. Learn about the traditions of Kwanza, plus Hispanic, Jewish and Greek celebrations. Enjoy a visit with "Der Belsnickel," the central figure of PA Dutch Holiday traditions, and learn how Lancaster's FW Woolworth brought secular holiday traditions to America. One hour of free time will be included in the tour to grab a snack or browse our specialty shops and galleries.
