Bird-in-Hand Stage

Beverly Lewis’ “The Confession” Musical has returned to the Bird-in-Hand Stage at the Bird-in-Hand Family Restaurant. Adapted from the New York Times bestselling author’s Amish trilogy, the hit musical premiered to many sold out performances in the author’s Lancaster County birthplace in the fall of 2011.

“The Confession” musical received critical acclaim last year. Wrote Marty Crisp of Lancaster Sunday News, “[it] promises a happy ending and delivers.” She proclaimed Brittany Lapp and her cast members “ready-for-prime-time voices.”

The touching Amish love story has returned for a 2012 season April 4 through November 30, 2012. Performances are held on a varying schedule at 1 pm, 4 pm and 7 pm. Show only, lunch & show and dinner & show packages are available.

The Bird-in-Hand Stage is the latest addition to the landmark Bird-in-Hand Family Restaurant & Smorgasbord. It is located on the banquet level of the restaurant. The property sits on the Smucker farm, surrounded by Amish farms along the Old Philadelphia Pike (Route 340), a designated cultural byway.

The captivating story of a spirited, young Amish woman, Brittany Church as Katie Lapp is caught in the middle of secrets and scandal, love lost and found and personal heartache and healing. Resolutely standing her ground when a New York actress masqueraded as a “Plain” woman for personal gain, Katie and her = “Confession” cast take audiences on an emotional roller coaster as lives of the Plain, not-so-plain and outright extravagant converge on the Bird-in-Hand Stage.

Beverly Lewis grew up in Lancaster County. Her story of her Old Order Mennonite grandmother’s shunning launched her writing career. The Shunning was published in 1997 and—along with its sequels—touched a nerve in millions of readers intrigued by the Plain culture. The Hallmark Channel aired the movie, “Beverly Lewis’ The Shunning” in 2011. “The Confession” movie is now in production.
