PCA&D, founded in 1982, is central PA's only professional art college and offers bachelor of fine arts degrees in graphic design, illustration, fine arts, and photography. It is located in the heart of a thriving and eclectic downtown Lancaster arts community. The PCA&D building itself is a site to see: pulsating, multi-colored lights illuminate the College's façade from dusk to dawn, thus adding an element of public art to the creative vibe that is downtown Lancaster.
The challenging curriculum at PCA&D includes professional internships as a requirement for graduation. Real-world projects are brought into the classroom by the PCA&D studio faculty, who are professional artists and designers.
In the spring of each year, graduating seniors mount the "Senior Show & Celebration," during which 60,000 square feet of the College are converted into gallery space for the students' work, all of which are professionally displayed.
PCA&D also offers continuing education art classes (credit and non-credit); certificate programs in home interiors, mural painting, digital photography, print design, and Web design; portfolio preparation for teenagers; and art classes for children in grades 1-9.
PCA&D's Main Gallery is handicapped accessible and features works by regionally- and nationally-acclaimed artists. Exhibits are free and open to the public.
