Steam Into History June 2013!
Steam Into History will chronicle Civil War and railroad history in York County PA by offering visitors an educational ride on a mid-1800’s era steam train operating between New Freedom and Hanover Junction PA.
The scenic ride on the former Northern Central Railway will be about two hours, aboard period coaches which will board at the New Freedom station and round house. Upon arrival at Hanover Junction riders will be invited to visit historic Hanover Junction Station where President Abraham Lincoln changed trains in November 1863 on his way to Gettysburg to make the famous Gettysburg Address. The steam locomotive will be turned on a period turntable, reconnected to the train and will then return to New Freedom.
Historical reenactments will be an exciting part of the experience visitors will enjoy all along the route including Civil War, railroad and native folks from York County portraying life as it was in 1863.
Shopping and souvenirs will be available at the gift shop at New Freedom before departing New Freedom and after the excursion. Plenty of parking will be available at or near the station.
