Day 1
Morning
Buggy Ride: Discover the countryside the way the Amish do, with a ride on an authentic Amish buggy. A peaceful ride in a horse-pulled buggy offers unique insight into the Amish way of life and gives new appreciation for the idyllic countryside.
Afternoon
Farms, Roadside Stands and Farmers' Markets: Play an easy game of go-seek on Lancaster's backroads as you find numerous roadside stands selling everything from fresh tomatoes to homemade root beer. Farm and roadside stands can be found throughout Lancaster County from late spring through fall harvest.
Evening
Dinner: Pennsylvania Dutch style! Enjoy traditional Pennsylvania Dutch cuisine served family-style, where diners sit at long tables and pass around heaping platters filled with fried chicken, baked sausage, brown buttered noodles, chow chow, and much more!
Overnight Lodging
Maybe it's Lancaster County's fresh country air…or the fun-filled pace. Or all that down-home cooking! Whatever the reason, when it's time to turn in, cozy, comfortable accommodations get to be a top priority. That's why you'll find such a variety of warmly welcoming hotels, motels, B&Bs, working farms, and country inns here in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. So you can feel right at home, away from home!
Day 2
Morning
Visit a recreation of an Amish homestead or village: Tour a house, farm or village set up to look like a typical Amish homestead or community. You'll learn how the Amish live and how they manage without electricity and other modern conveniences.
Afternoon
Mud Sales: Held in various villages throughout the Amish countryside in Lancaster County each spring, these Saturday sales are huge auctions to benefit the volunteer fire companies. Mud sales, named for the condition of the thawing ground, bring thousands of Amish and English looking to bid on everything from quilts and crafts to furniture, antiques, Amish buggies, baked goods, and more.
Evening
Performance Arts/Theatre: Indulge yourself with an evening where spectacular entertainment takes center stage. Nothing beats live entertainment. The curtains go up and for a few hours you're transported to another world. Suddenly you're laughing, singing, maybe even crying but having the time of your life.
Day 3
Morning
Quilt Shops: Be sure to include a stop at an Amish-owned and operated quilt shop where you'll see a beautiful display of Amish-made quilts, wall hangings, pillows, "quillows" and other handmade items.
