Take to the road and taste your way through Pennsylvania Dutch Country with one of our new culinary trails. Try the Dairy Trail for samplings of everything from chocolate to farm-fresh ice cream, or the Ale Trail for a look at the unique microbreweries of the region. For the true snack food fiend, the Sweet n' Salty Trail offers a day-long voyage of pretzel twisting, chip tasting and more.

Day 2

The Taste of the Countryside
Explore just why Lancaster County's known as the "Garden Spot of America." Learn about the farming heritage of the area's Amish population, and sample your way through farmers' markets, roadside stands and the culinary traditions that make the region so popular.

Farmers' market
Experience true farm-fresh foods with a morning stop at any of the area's fine farmers' markets. Local farmers, many of them Amish, bring their meats, cheeses, produce and more fresh from the farm to the market, where customers can experience the very best of local foods. Sample homemade jellies and baked goods or just-baked soft pretzels.

Working cannery
This Pennsylvania Dutch custom of canning and preserving the fruits and vegetables from the home garden is one passed down from generation to generation. Today, visitors can watch as Amish women still can thousands of jars of jams, jellies, and preserves by hand at Kitchen Kettle Village, and nearby, the Intercourse Canning Company features all kinds of Amish hors d'oeuvres, from jams and salsas to dips, BBQ sauces and more.

247 East Eby Road, Leola
Venture to the countryside of Leola, where Amish farmers demonstrate a completely different way to create those dairy delights! Take a peek inside a working Amish dairy farm, where you'll learn how the Amish complete the milking process without modern technology. Then, browse through the shop, where handmade quilts and crafts prevail. Part of the FlavorFest Dairy Trail, this experience is like no other.

Pennsylvania Dutch meal
Tempt your taste buds with mountains of Pennsylvania Dutch delights, and you'll immediately know you're in an area of "gut fressin" (good eating)! Enjoy a traditional Pennsylvania Dutch family-style meal and see what chicken pot pie, shoofly pie, hot bacon dressing, chow chow, whoopie pies and more really taste like. Hearty meals are served family style (at long tables with heaping portions passed around from guest to guest) or smorgasbord, where guests line up for an all-you-can-eat feast of fried chicken, fresh roast beef, buttered brown noodles, and mouth watering desserts. We can promise you won't leave hungry!

Day 3

Culinary Tour or Workshop
Go behind the scenes of our famous Pennsylvania Dutch kitchens, learn the secrets of gourmet recipes, or hop aboard for a ride in an old-fashioned dining car. They're all part of Pennsylvania Dutch Country's signature FlavorFest tours. Or take advantage of various workshops, wine tasting, cooking demos, and more taking place throughout the year for a true hands-on approach to culinary tourism.
